Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the basic neuroscience of sleep architecture, and list the most likely causes of dysfunction.
- Differentiate specific MOA of various pharmacologic agents approved and in development to treat specific disruptions in various parts of sleep architecture.
- Recognize a range of common sleep disturbance symptoms presented in clinical practice which may indicate insomnia.
- Identify available assessment tools which may be incorporated into the clinical practice setting to facilitate appropriate screening for diagnosis.
- Illustrate the patient education elements which should be incorporated into the treatment planning process, and recommend appropriate environmental and behavioral activities to mitigate interruptions of sleep.
