Program Description
Primary care, initially the principal delivery system for mental health care, has become a large source of antidepressant prescriptions over the last 10 years, and current estimates suggest that 30% of depressed patients in primary care have a bipolar spectrum diagnosis.1 Yet despite the strong link between primary care and this disorder, an eye-opening study reveals 69% of bipolar patients are initially misdiagnosed by their physician, with many seeking consultation from five or more clinicians before accurate diagnosis.2 Don't let this happen in your practice. Because bipolar disorder often hides behind a comorbid condition, physicians like you must be prepared to overcome the diagnostic obstacles that stand between you and your patients' well-being.
